  • As of recent estimates, around 1.6 million adults (approximately 7% of the population) are current vapers in Australia.

  • Yes. Multiple Cochrane reviews and UK National Institute for Health Research findings confirm that vaping is more effective than nicotine patches, gums or lozenges.

    • For every 100 smokers using vapes to quit, 10–19 will succeed after 6 months or more.

  • Yes. Vaping is estimated to be at least 95% less harmful than smoking.

  • Vaping is not risk-free but dramatically reduces exposure to the 7,000 harmful chemicals found in tobacco smoke. The risk of cancer from vaping is estimated to be less than 0.5% of the risk from smoking.

  • Nicotine causes dependence but is not the cause of smoking-related diseases. It’s comparable to caffeine in risk.

  • No. There is currently no evidence of harm from passive vaping.
